Father pleads guilty to abusing infant son

LOGAN — A 32-year-old Logan man, Ryan Udy has pleaded guilty to abusing his infant son and will now await sentencing.

Court records show, Udy accepted a plea deal in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse, amended to a third-degree felony. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped three additional charges.

Udy was arrested in April 2013 accused of abusing his infant son several times, breaking his arm, and causing bruises and other injuries. The abuse was reported to have happened in March 2013 and December 2012.

Defense attorneys had argued that Udy was only with the child for a short time and that the abuse was caused by the child’s mother.

An eight-day jury trial had been postponed several times as attorneys acquired medical records and other evidence.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Judge Brandon Maynard scheduled a sentencing date for May 31. Udy could face up to five-years in prison.
