Utah man mistakenly kills son while target shooting

SNOWVILLE, Utah (AP) — Authorities in Box Elder County say a man accidentally shot and killed his son while the two were target shooting.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Dale Ward says the incident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday in a remote area off State Route 30, about 20 miles west of Snowville. According to Ward, both were shooting rifles in separate locations when the 27-year-old son somehow got in his father’s line of fire. Deputies say the son was hit once in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ward says the shooting remains under investigation.
