Burglary suspect appears in court

Marvin Edenilson Miranda, 31, who police say is connected with at least 16 burglaries.  He is charged with 39 counts of burglary, theft and similar charges.

LOGAN — A 31-year-old Logan man, Marvin E. Miranda who police say is connected with at least 16 burglaries, appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning.

Miranda was first arrested January 21 and later charged with 39 counts of burglary, theft and similar charges. He is being held in the Cache County Jail on a $224,000 bail.

Logan City Police Captain Curtis Hooley said officers had been investigating multiple burglaries that occurred recently, when they received a tip from police in Roy. The investigators there said, they believed a man matching Miranda’s description may be connected with a burglary in their jurisdiction.

The address they provided matched a neighborhood where investigators had already tracked a stolen iPad to. Officers later pulled Miranda over during a traffic stop and found several stolen items inside the car.

Hooley said, investigators then obtained and served a search warrant to Miranda’s residence near 350 West 800 South. Inside they found additional merchandise believed to be stolen. The items included TVs, computers and other electronics, along with jewelry and guns.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Miranda’s defense attorney said prosecutors had made a tentative plea offer but additional charges are pending. State attorney Aaron Jossie explained that the federal government is also investigating the burglaries because of the stolen firearms and may be filing more charges.

Judge Brian Cannell said he would allow attorneys a week to work out a possible resolution. He ordered Miranda to appear again in court February 16.
