The Logan Library Board has gone on record stating that the city needs a new library to replace the one between 200 and 300 North on Main Street which is in a building that is about 90 years old. Library Director Robert Shupe said the board has also recommended that a new library be located either on or near Logan’s Main Street.

On KVNU’s For the People program Wednesday, Shupe said the Logan Library is a very busy place with at least 20,000 people utilizing it every month.

”We currently have about 30,000 square feet of useful space,” Shupe explained. “The building has more square footage than that, but part of it is upstairs which we can’t use because it is not ADA compliant. We would have to install elevators to be able to use it. So there is wasted space from that standpoint.

”Plus, with the building that is designed as a public library there are a lot of enhancements that we would incorporate. We would have more flexible use of space so it could be used more, roll in programs like Cache Makers and have more meeting rooms.”

Logan Mayor Craig Petersen said a new library is high on his priority list and what needs to be decided is where it should be and how it would be paid for.
