Utah State football will begin Famous Idaho Potato Bowl activities Friday with “Bowl For Charity” event

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State football is scheduled to leave for Boise, Idaho, Friday morning via bus and will participate in various Famous Idaho Potato Bowl functions throughout the weekend.

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (FIPB) will kick-off bowl week activities Friday evening (Dec. 18) with the Famous Idaho Potato “Bowl for Charity” bowling event at PINZ Bowling Center at the Wahooz Family Fun Zone (1385 Blue Marlin Lane) in Meridian, Idaho. The event will run from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Utah State and Akron will participate in the lively event, bowling for donations that will go toward the Idaho Foodbank and the Boise Rescue Mission as the recipients of this year’s “Bowl for Charity” donations. This year’s “Bowl for Charity” consolidates charitable contributions from its title sponsor, Albertsons, as well as various Idaho organizations, including, Agri Beef Co., J.R. Simplot Company, Potandon Produce, and the Idaho Grower Shippers Association into thousands of pounds of potatoes and beef that will have a positive impact on the Boise market this holiday season. Additionally, the FIPB will be making contributions to each of the schools’ designated charities within their respective regions.

The Bowl is anticipating that more than 800 pounds of fresh and dehydrated potatoes from J.R. Simplot and Potandon Produce will be divided between the two local charities. Agri Beef Co. will also be donating 400 pounds of ground beef between the two charities. In pitting the two competing teams in a friendly match of bowling, Albertsons will recognize the winning team with a donation of a $750 gift card to one charity and $700 gift card to the second place charity.

Utah State (6-6, 5-3 MW) will conclude its 2015 season against Akron (7-5, 5-3 MAC) in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 1:30 pm (MT) in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Aggies and Zips.

Utah State is playing in its fifth-straight bowl game and has won each of its last three bowl games, both of which are school records. With a victory against Akron, USU will secure a winning season for the fifth-straight year, a first for the program since also doing so from 1971-75.
