Utah State’s Travis Seefeldt granted sixth year of eligibility by Mountain West and NCAA

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s Travis Seefeldt has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, it was announced Thursday. Seefeldt, who redshirted during the 2011 season at USU, was given an exception from normal standards for his sixth-year, as his injuries were not related to athletics.

Seefeldt, a 6-foot-2, 305-pound nose guard from Peoria, Ariz (Liberty HS), missed the 2015 season due to injuries sustained in a car crash in Cache Valley in June of 2015.

During his junior season in 2014, Seefeldt recorded 35 tackles, which included 2.0 sacks and 6.0 tackles for loss, while adding two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups and two blocked kicks.

For his career, Seefeldt has played in 39 games with two starts and has recorded 54 tackles, which includes 4.0 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss, while adding three fumble recoveries, two pass breakups, two blocked kicks and one forced fumble.

Seefeldt, a three-time academic all-conference honoree, will graduate from Utah State with a bachelor’s degree in management information systems this winter and begin working on his master’s in business administration next spring.

Utah State (6-6, 5-3 MW) will conclude its 2015 season against Akron (7-5, 5-3 MAC) in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 1:30 pm (MT) in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Aggies and Zips.

Utah State is playing in its fifth-straight bowl game and has won each of its last three bowl games, both of which are school records. With a victory against Akron, USU will secure a winning season for the fifth-straight year, a first for the program since also doing so from 1971-75.
