Rising culinary TV star got her start in the kitchen of her Logan grandparents

She learned to cook in the kitchen of her grandparents–Jack and Charlotte Nixon–here in Logan and now Kelsey Nixon continues to rise as one of television’s brightest culinary stars.

The host of “Kelsey’s Essentials” recently launched a new line of kitchen gear that will become part of Home Shopping Network’s 24-Hour cooks event on Sunday, November 1st.

Then on November 14th her new show “Kelsey’s Homemade” is scheduled to premier on The Cooking Channel featuring food, decorating and other lifestyle tips.

“Kelsey’s Essentials” was her first show and it ran for five seasons with re-runs now being shown.

Although Kelsey Nixon now resides in New York City with her husband Nick and young son Oliver, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Nixon of Ogden. While in Logan recently, she said many of her favorite recipies came from her grandmother Charlotte who passed away last year.

”Charlotte had a roaster pot that her mother had had in Mexico,” Jack Nixon says. “Every Sunday we always used to cook a roast in that roaster pot.

”After Charlotte passed away Kelsey called me one time and said, ‘Is there any chance I could maybe use that roaster pot? I’m going to do a demonstration on television on one of my shows and I would like to cook the roast in that.'”

He described Kelsey as “a real brick, a girl who always worked hard because she wanted to succeed.” Nixon said Kelsey has had her share of sorrows. Her second son Leo who was born in March lived for just one month. Her eldest son suffered from a similar disorder and was hospitalized for several weeks but fortunately survived.
