LOGAN — A jury has found 57-year-old Dean A. Ferguson not guilty on charges he molested several girls.

Court records show, the Millville man was exonerated on all five charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. The jury read their decision Thursday night after deliberating for two hours.

The verdict came after the three day trial that included testimony from the alleged victims, specialists and the defendant.

Defense attorney Wayne Caldwell said he was very happy with the jury’s verdict and was proud of Ferguson’s courage, to maintain his innocence.

Caldwell speculated that inconsistencies in the victim’s testimonies, changes in the dates and time line probably led jurors to question the validity of the accusations.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar wouldn’t speculate on why the jury ruled the way they did but said, “we respect this process and don’t get to control the outcome.”

Lachmar met with the victim’s mother after the verdict. She said she was absolutely devastated.
