LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer concluded the first weekend of Mountain West action Sunday, falling to San Diego State, 2-0.

With the loss, Utah State falls to 5-5-1 on the year with a 0-2-0 Mountain West record. The Aztecs improve to 5-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.

Senior goalkeeper Jeannie Woller played her sixth-straight full game Sunday, as she tallied six saves. She now has a 4-5-1 record in the net for the Aggies with 65 total saves and 11 goals allowed. On the day, The Aztecs recorded 17 shots to the Aggies’ 12, including an 8-5 on goal advantage.

The first half was a quiet one for the Aggies and Aztecs, as the teams battled to a scoreless draw at the break. Both teams played the ball very methodically throughout, with very even-keel offenses. San Diego State had the slight shot advantage, 5-3.

Both teams came out strong in the second half, but the Aztecs were able to find the back of net quickly, taking the lead in the 56th minute. Aztec forward Leah Pruitt scored her third goal of the season, as she maintained possession through the defense and shot to the bottom right corner of the net from the edge of the box.

The Aztecs extended their lead in the 76th minute, when Morgan Darling received a pass from Jen Rupey. She took a shot which hit the crossbar, but deflected down where she was able to follow through to score.

Utah State mixed things up in the formation throughout the second half, with several players changing positions. Junior forward Jessica Brooksby was the top offensive player for the Aggies, taking five shots on the day. She had one final chance at the buzzer, taking a free kick off an Aztec foul. Junior midfielder Katie Flynn had three shots, two of which were on goal.

Utah State is on the road for the next two weeks as it continues Mountain West action. The Aggies travel to California to take on Fresno State on Friday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. (MT) before playing at San José State on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. (MT).
