They just want to ride again and feel the wind in their face

It is time to get reservations for Reach For the Stars, the annual benefit auction for Common Ground Outdoor Adventures. This year’s event will be held Wednesday, October 7 at the Riverwoods Conference Center at 615 Riverwoods Parkway in Logan.

Program Director Bryce Patten says the social hour and silent auction start at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 and then a program and auction.

Patten says Reach for the Stars annually provides approximately one-third of the funding Common Ground uses to provide outdoor adventures for youth and adults with disabilities who range in age from two years old up to the upper 90s.

So what does someone in their 90s want to do?

“A lot of them want to ride a bike or go canoeing,” Patten answers. “These are things they never thought they could ever do again. So with our help, and with the different equipment that we have, we’re able to take them and get them on a bike again.

“They get to ride again and feel the wind in their face. It takes them back to when they were 12 riding their bike all around town.”

Patten says there is an exciting program which will feature Utah State University basketball coach Tim Duryea and his wife, Jett Youngblood and others. For reservations and information call 713-0288.
