Wednesdays in Wellsville farmers market

There are plenty of things to do this weekend including visiting the Gardener’s and Farmers markets in downtown Logan and in North Logan (at the North Logan Library). But you may not know that there is a midweek market in the late afternoon on the south side of the valley. Sam Winward was our guest on KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday. He chairs the Parks and Recreations committee in Wellsville and said the idea of a farmers market has been brought up from time to time. So they approached the Wellsville Foundation, an organization that does things for the community.

Winward said, “Kaylene Ames has been our key contact there. That board decided they would kind of  be the sponsoring organization.  So we’ve combined alot of efforts.  Kaylene’s  put in probably the most work and I’ve tried to support behind the scenes. (Also)Stacie Christensen has been a big support and there’s been just a lot of support across the board to make that happen”.

Thus the “Wednesdays in Wellsville” market was hatched and runs every Wednesday afternoon from 3p.m. to 7p.m. near the Wellsville Tabernacle. Winward said a couple things went into their idea for the market. One is the fact that people seem to enjoy farmer’s markets and they were looking to stimulate a little more business in town.

“We thought we would do mid-week because we didn’t want to necessarily compete with that well established one in Logan on Saturday mornings.  We thought….maybe by mid-week you’ve eaten all the stuff you bought Saturday mornings”, Winward said.  “So now you can run down to Wellsville mid-week and get some fresh produce as well and check out what’s going on down there”.
