Pageant that celebrates Corinne’s colorful past will have surprises this year

It’s a city with a colorful history. The city of Corinne in Box Elder County was best known back in 1869 for its gambling, its casinos, for its so-called “divorce machines” and for its first church erected by the Methodists.

Each year those days are explored in a comedic fashion in the pageant “Corinne: The Gentile City” and this year the pageant will be held Friday and Saturday, June 26 and 27th at the Corinne City Park.

Beulah Wells, creator of the pageant with her husband DeVerl 10 years ago, says each year there are surprises, including this year.

“The main characters are called Mr. and Mrs. Shafely and they end up getting a divorce,” Wells says. “But this year we are bringing them back together and they will end in a happy marriage.”

Wells says everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the pageant. Activities at the park begin at 7 p.m. and the pageant stats at dark. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to Corrine which is located five miles west of Brigham City on I-15, Exit 368.
