Rock climber dies after falling in Green Canyon

LOGAN — Cache County Search and Rescue crews were called to Green Canyon Thursday afternoon after a 23-year-old male fell while rock climbing.

Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau said the climber fell 50 to 100 feet near Scout Cave, about a mile east from the mouth of the canyon. Paramedics located the victim, reporting he had sustained a severe head injury.

A helicopter with a hoist was first requested to assist crews with the high angle rescue.

Bilodeau said the rescue later turned into a recovery operation after the climber died of his injuries.

Rescuers were called off the mountain after the victim died and severe weather threatened the safety of rescuers.

Bilodeau said the recovery operation will resume once the weather clears.

The victim’s name is expected to be released pending notification of family.
