Burglary suspect sentenced to jail

Logan McKell Reidel-Rupert, 32, arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of burglary, theft, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and other charges. He's being held on $9,000 bail.

LOGAN — A 32-year-old Logan man who was caught burglarizing a Lewiston business and fled the scene with his 12-year-old son, was sentenced to 180-days in jail.

Logan McKell Reidel-Rupert appeared in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon after previously pleading guilty to criminal mischief, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanors of assault, theft, reckless endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

In December 2014, a woman reported seeing Reidel-Rupert burglarizing Cache Valley Tire and fleeing the scene in a GMC Yukon. Authorities located the vehicle, conducted a high risk traffic stop and arrested him. His 12-year-old son was also found in the vehicle and later released to a family member.

Defense attorney Bryan Galloway said he believes his client is a good father but struggled to understand why anyone would put their child in that type of risk.

Reidel-Rupert told the court what he did was reckless and destructive. He apologized to his family and said he was acting completely out of character.

Judge Kevin Allen said he would allow work release so Reidel-Rupert could continue to financially support his family. He also ordered him to undergo counseling.
