Utah State’s Seokwon Jeon finishes second at BYU-hosted PING Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah – Utah State junior golfer Seokwon Jeon finished in second-place at the BYU hosted PING Cougar Classic held here at the Riverside Country Club after shooting a final round 2-under 70 on Saturday to finish the tournament with a 5-under par 211 (71-70-70).

Jeon, who entered his final round tied for fourth-place at 3-under par, lost to tournament champion Jordan Rogers of BYU (71-69-71) on the second playoff hole. Both players began the playoff by paring the par-4 18th hole. They then moved to the par-4 first hole, where Rogers made par and Jeon bogged the hole.

Overall, Jeon’s 5-under 211 is tied for this best 54-hole score this season, while his second-place outing is his best tournament finish of the season and the second-best of his career as he took medalist honors at the Utah Invitational in October of 2013.

Utah State shot a final round of 4-over 292 to finish the 11-team tournament in seventh-place with a 6-over 870 (290-288-292). Colorado State won the team championship with an 11-under 853 (278-286-289). For USU, it is the eighth time in nine events this season that it has finished in the top 10.
