Utah State Track and Field collect 25 top-three finishes on final day of the Mark Faldmo Invitational

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s men’s and women’s track and field teams collected 25 top-three finishes, as well as 10 individual event title winners Saturday on the second and final day of the Mark Faldmo Invitational.

“Any time you can have a home meet, good weather and athletes that are producing good times, it makes for a great meet to watch,” said USU head coach Gregg Gensel. “I came into the home meet asking myself where is the team as far as development goes, and all of the sudden we get great weather and our team has great performances to set us up for the championship part of the season.”

Men’s event title winners for the Aggies included sophomore Landon Watts in the 400m (48.75), senior Daniel Mosman in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.13 and senior Eric Shellhorn in the 800m with a time of 1:50.19. Freshman Jordan Beutler won the 1,500m with a time of 3:55.05, while fellow freshman Kyler Wightman won the long jump (7.01m/23-00.00).

Women’s event title winners for the USU women included senior Laycee Elliott in the 400m hurdles (1:01.62) and sophomore Bethani Talbot, who came away victorious in the high jump by posting a mark of 1.65m/5-05.00. Sophomore Kayla Lee won the triple jump (11.90m/39-00.50) and junior Maci Bingham won both the shot put (14.15m/46-05.25) and the discus (51.29m/168-03).

Other men’s top-three finishers included freshman Bryson Stout, who placed second in the 200m (21.69), senior Briton Page, who placed third in the 400m hurdles (54.45) and Wightman, who placed third in the triple jump (13.27m/43-06.50). Sophomore Jason Allred finished second in the pole vault (4.75m/15-07.00), while junior Kevin Allen placed second in both the shot put (15.04m/49-04.25) and discus (50.76m/166-06).

Freshman David Hirschmann placed third in the shot put (14.93m/48-11.75), while senior Mike Bills finished second in the 1,500m (3:58.70) and sophomore Dustin Randall placed third in the 1,500m (4:01.94). The Aggies also had a men’s 4x400m relay team of sophomore Dallas Hoofard, sophomore Landon Watts, freshman Tyus Kuykendall and Mosman place second with a time of 3:20.11.

Top-three finishers for the Aggie women included senior Amber Thompson, who placed second in the pole vault (3.50m/11-05.75), while freshman Kelsey Yamauchi finished second (4:30.85) and junior Karlee Deeter placed third (4:45.48). Sophomore Shelby Jordan seized second place in the shot put (12.95m/42-06.00), while sophomore Anna Maki placed third in the triple jump (11.19m/36-08.05).

Utah State’s women also had a 4x400m relay team consisting of freshman Rachel Anderson, Elliott, sophomore Kaitlyn Wilcox and junior Megan Perkins that finished third with a time of 4:03.57.
