After more than four years of planning, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the location for their new temple in Afton, Wyoming.
Wednesday, the church’s First Presidency announced the Star Valley Wyoming Temple will be be constructed east of U.S. Highway 89 on the Haderlie Farm property south of Afton. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 25.
A press release from the church said, once construction of the new temple begins, it is expected to take approximately two years to complete. A date for the dedication has not been announced.
The Star Valley Wyoming Temple is the first in the state and was announced at the Church’s general conference in October 2011.
The Church currently has 144 temples in operation, with another 29 announced, under construction or being renovated.
