New York Times bestseller speaking at USU today about Calvin Coolidge

Amity Shlaes, the author of four New York Times bestsellers, will speak at Utah State University Wednesday, February 18 in USU’s Eccles Conference Center Auditorium.

The event is free and is hosted by Strata, a Logan-based public policy think tank and by USU’s Center for the Study of American Constitutionalism.

Her address begins at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by a 12:30 to 12:50 book signing in the lobby.

“We are happy to bring her to Logan to share some of her thoughts, particularly on Calvin Coolidge and his presidency and that era of American history,” said Strata spokesman Parker Jeppesen.

Her presentation “The President Who Said ‘No’, is a reference to Coolidge’s term and that when he left office there was a surplus in the national budget.

Shlaes is a veteran journalist who writes for Forbes and National Review and spent over 10 years as a columnist for the Financial Times and Bloomberg. She chairs the board of the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation.

Jeppesen calls Strata a public policy research organization based in Logan.

“We mainly employ university students to do public policy research and we do all kinds of different research surveys and reports. Our goal is to demonstrate to policy makers and civic and business leaders that liberty-based ideas and free markets are going to bring greater prosperity to people.”
