Craig Petersen hoping to find ways to reinvigorate downtown Logan

Since taking office almost a year ago one of Logan Mayor Craig Petersen’s major goals was the revitalization of downtown. He says a consultant has been hired and some food ideas are being considered.

However, on KVNU’s Meet the Mayor program this week Petersen said unfortunately the number of vacancies in the city’s core downtown area, from 300 North to 100 South, has been growing.

He said it was a real bow to recently learn that the Coppermill Restaurant in the Emporium would be closing.

”That was a huge shock and a huge blow,” said Petersen. “We need to find a way to reinvigorate that. We have some economic developments we are working on.

”If we can bring them to fruition they will be very significant. They will have a major impact. But those are the kind of things that you never count until the buildings are actually built.”

The mayor will be presenting his first State of the City address at the next municipal council meeting on January 6, 2015.
