Utah’s newest ski resort making last preparations before opening

Utah’s newest ski resort, offering ski and snowboarding options, is a little more than a month from its grand opening. Cherry Peak Resort, 20 minutes north of Logan in the Richmond area, includes 22 runs, a 500-foot magic carpet, two terrain parks, ice skating and tubing.

“We haven’t set opening day yet because we are racing so fast to get everything done. Hopefully it will be somewhere very close to Christmas,” said Cherry Peak CEO John Chadwick.

“We have two triple chairlifts in, we have a conveyor lift in and we have a brand new road that’s been paved. The lodge is being finished as we speak; we have about a month left on the lodge. We also have part of our snow-making system in and part of our lighting is complete.”

Chadwick said at any one time he expects the new resort can accommodate 1,500 skiers. “Over the course of a given day that could be two or three thousand on the big days because not everyone stays all day.”

Most of the mountain will be lit during the season for night skiing and snow will continue all season long with the help of the snow-making machines.

General Manager Forrest Fackrell said season passes will cost just over $300.

“We will be offering both day and night passes. Our day passes are $42 and evening passes are $22. We will be open six days a week,” said Fackrell.
