Preliminary hearing rescheduled for Millville man arrested on child sex abuse charges

Dean Ferguson, 56, arrested May 19, 2014 on charges of sexual abuse of a child and object rape, both first-degree felonies.

LOGAN — The preliminary hearing for a 56-year-old Millville man, suspected of sexually abusing several teenage girls, has been continued again for a month.

Dean Ferguson faces a total of eight charges including aggravated sexual abuse of a child and object rape of a child, all first-degree felonies and lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor. Court records show the alleged abuse occurred between January 2012 and April 2013.

Ferguson was not in court for Wednesday’s preliminary hearing. His attorney told 1st District Court Judge Brandon Maynard that his client was unable to attend the hearing because of a work commitment, out of state.

Two prior preliminary hearings were also rescheduled after additional witnesses came forward and charges were amended.

Wednesday’s preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for October 16. During the hearing it will be determined if there is enough evidence to try Ferguson on the eight charges he faces.

Ferguson was arrested May 19 after sheriff’s investigators were notified of the abuse and interviewed several victims. He was later released from the Cache County Jail after posting a $25,000 bond.
