Garbage fire at Cedar Ridge Middle School

Fire crews extinguishing garbage fire at Cedar Ridge Middle School, Wednesday September 17, 2014.

Fire crews were called to extinguish a garbage truck fire, Wednesday morning at Cedar Ridge Middle School in Hyde Park.

The fire was reported at 8:15 a.m., when a garbage truck driver noticed smoke coming from the back of his truck and emptied his garbage in the school’s parking lot.

Video and photos showed the truck’s load fully engulfed in flames after being emptied.

Students were kept away as fire crews responded and extinguished the flames. The garbage was then loaded into a bin and transported to the landfill.

Previously, Logan City Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said garbage fires commonly occur a couple times a year and are usually caused when disposed items ignite when compacted.

There were no reports of any injuries.
