Senior citizens invited to flu and inoculation party

LEWISTON- On Wednesday, September 10th the public is invited to a flu and inoculation party at the Sunrise Park Complex from 11 am to 2 pm. The complex is located at 53-55 S Main in Lewiston.

The goal is to immunize a record number of seniors against influenza, shingles, pneumonia, and Dtap. While immunizations are for senior citizens, the rest of the public is invited to come out and enjoy music and food. This is the third annual flu and inoculation party and is put on by North Cache Nonprofit Senior Support Center, Lewiston Public Library, and Larry’s Pharmacies.

“We want to be advocates for the elderly up here in the north corner of Cache Valley,” said event organizer Gay Jorgensen. “Our rural seniors just need some help.”

Jorgensen said last year they immunized 70 people. The goal this year is to double that number. She said it’s also a great deal for seniors to get their immunizations at Wednesday’s party because flu shots are only $20, a $10 saving over normal cost. She wants to remind those interested to bring their insurance and/or medicare cards.

“Larry’s Pharmacies is providing the serum, they’re providing the people to administer the vaccinations, and they will actually bill the insurance companies right there on the spot,” Jorgensen explained.

“If you’re not asking for the immunizations you need, you’re asking for trouble,” she added. “You have to speak up and ask for the immunizations you need.”

Jorgensen invites everyone of all ages to come and enjoy free soup and warm bread at the party. There will also be music and a goodie table prepared by the Lewiston Library Board.
