Fire destroys hay plant in Box Elder County

Fire at Marbou Enterprices, 6400 North Iowa String Rd. Tremonton.  The fire started in the plant's break room and has been estimated to be a total loss, around 10 million dollars.

A Wednesday night fire has destroyed a hay processing plant, south of Tremonton.

Box Elder County Fire Marshal Corey Barton said the fire was reported at 9:47 p.m. at the Bailey Farms International, 6400 North Iowa String Rd.

First crews arriving on the scene reported flames coming from the plant’s break room. The plant was evacuated as a propane tank nearby began to vent, and later exploded.

The fire was also fueled by hay bales that were being processed inside the plant.

Barton said crews believe the plant’s building structure is unsafe to enter. They plan on letting the fire burn itself out. “I expect it will continue burning for a week-or-two,” said Barton.

Crews will remain on-site monitoring the fire.

Barton said one fireman was taken to Bear River Hospital and treated for burns. He was later released.

The plant has been determined to be a complete loss and valued around 10-million-dollars. The cause of the fire is unknown. An investigation is being conducted.
