Hope for Hoth features kid’s camp

Friends are rallying around Karen Hoth, who has stage 4 colon cancer, with a fundraising event Saturday in Hyde Park.

“We are going to have a kid’s camp at the Hyde Park City Building in the basement, hoping to raise money to help Karen,” said Mandy Birch. Birch and Angie Chandler are among those who have organized the Saturday event.

“Karen had her baby just shy of 32 weeks so that she could begin her treatments,” said Chandler.

Birch said 3-5 year olds will be the first group to experience the event attractions in the morning. A lunch of hotdogs, drinks and cotton candy will follow. Children ages 6-10 will join the kids camp for activities in the afternoon.

“They will come in and do a lot of different crafts along with beanbag tosses and ring tosses, necklaces and jump rope parachute and lots of other fun activities,” said Birch.

Admission cost is $25 per child and organizers said all of the money raised will go to Karen Hoth. The younger group will be on hand from 10 am to noon and the older children will go through the events from 2-4 pm.
