Bear River playoff run stopped short by Morgan 67-54

The rematch of last year’s 3A title game between the Morgan Trojans and Bear River Bears had different players, but the result was the same as the Trojans pulled away in the fourth to win 67-54.

Trojans guard Matt Murdock led the way with 17 points, but the dagger wasn’t put through until late in the fourth quarter. With the Bears trailing 57-49 and seemingly near knocking the glass wall down and ready to make one more big run at Morgan, Trojans’ Garren Miles pumped fake a three. The defender bit on the fake, jumped into Miles who then launched the shot and sank it from deep. Miles then converted the free throw to get a four point play and shut the door on an up-and-down season for the Bears.

But the Bears did not help themselves throughout the game having all sorts of troubles trying to overcome Morgan’s tight full court press, but could not do so giving up 27 turnovers for the game. Stetson Summers led all scorers with 23 points, while McKade Mitton finished with 16.
