4-H receives grant to promote STEM programs

Utah State University Extension 4-H is a recipient of the Cognizant 2014 Making the Future grant. The grant is part of Cognizant’s “Making the Future” initiative to fund after school, in-school and summer programs aimed at sparking interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The award will support the Cache County 4-H Maker Club and fledgling Maker Space. Cache County volunteers Joel Duffin and Kevin Reeve began the club as a way to give youth an opportunity to explore technology such as 3D printing and design, robotics, programming, electronics, micro-controllers and manufacturing.

The Cache Maker Club has a waiting list. There are approximately 20 4-H youth and several adult volunteers who participate in the weekly club.
