Cache Valley Assisted Living holds annual Valentine’s Dance for residents and public

PROVIDENCE – Tonight at 6:30 pm is the fourth annual Valentine’s Dance at Cache Valley Assisted Living. The Providence Youth Council helps put on the event and the dance is open to the community.

There will be live entertainment and refreshments. Recreation Director Sarah Schow said the music will be something the residents will enjoy.

“We have a man who comes in and plays the piano once a month. He will be playing some dance numbers and some music from that time period so they can have something to listen to and enjoy dancing to,” she said.

The Valentine’s Dance first started when the residents were asked what activities they would like to do again and one resident suggested he would like to dance again.

Ever since, it’s been a very popular event among the residents.

“I’ve had people asking me all week, ‘Is it the dance tonight? When is the Valentine’s Dance? Can I bring my husband?’ They get very excited for it,” said Schow.

Schow said it’s also good to get the Providence Youth Council involved with the dance.

“We find it’s very fun for the youth to come in and participate with the residents here. It gives them an opportunity to serve and to get out of their comfort level. It’s a very positive experience for everyone involved.”

The dance will probably last less than two hours so residents can get to bed.

“We love to do this for our residents,” said Schow. “There’s no better feeling in the world than watching someone’s face light up. Even if they’re just dancing from their wheelchair, they enjoy the music and they feel loved. That’s what the dance is all about.”
