The Utah Highway Patrol says it will be out in full force tonight with a message: anyone planning to drink should arrange for a ride home. Local Trooper Corey Thomas says he believes that message has been effective and more people who drink at New Year’s parties are arranging for a driver.
“To put it in perspective, everyone has some sort of family or someone they care about and you need to think of it from their point of view. Everyone has someone they care about and you wouldn’t want them to be on the road with an unsafe driver,” explained Thomas.
Thomas encouraged the public to watch for signs of drunken drivers or those committing other violations. He said that does not mean you should not have a good time on New Year’s Eve.
