Willow Park Zoo converted into Reindeer Trek

The public has just one more chance to participate in the first annual Reindeer Trek at the Willow Park Zoo where families are enjoying not only the Zoo’s new reindeer–Nanook and Zima–but other fun animals, Santa Claus himself, a lot of fun games, lights and various activities.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Wednesday, the zoo’s education director Michelle Sagers said the hours will be Saturday from 12 noon until 8 p.m.

Sagers said the zoo has owned the two new reindeer, both males, since October and it’s been great.

“The zoo staff’s been working with them,” Sagers said. “They were halter broke when they came. They are very friendly. They like to be scratched and like to go on walks.

“They’ve been a lot of fun and working with them like that. We’re hoping that by next year they’ll be able to pull a sleigh but we’re still a ways away from that.”

After Saturday the zoo will close for the rest of the winter but Sagers hopes for a lot of visitors and a lot of new memberships in the spring.
