LDS church: All missionaries in Phillippines safe

Officials from the Mormon church say all of its missionaries in the Philippines are safe after a devastating typhoon hit the island nation.

Two dozen Mormon missionaries had been unaccounted for as of midday Monday, but officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said in a statement Monday evening that contact has been made with each of them.

They say church buildings provided refuge during the storm and are now serving as shelters and disaster relief sites.

There are 21 mission posts in the Philippines, but it’s not known how many missionaries are serving there.
