Bail hearing set for mother arrested in son’s death

Heidi Rutchey, 42, arrested in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son, Eli Rutchey.

LOGAN – The mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son, was back in court Monday morning.

Heidi Marie Rutchey appeared with her attorney in First-District Court for a pre-trial conference. She was escorted into the courtroom wearing a purple jumpsuit and had her left-arm in a sling.

While waiting to speak to the judge, Rutchey could be seen and heard crying, sitting in the court room’s jury box, with other jail inmates.

Rutchey’s attorney, Dave Perry asked First-District Judge Thomas Willmore to set a date for a bail hearing. Willmore asked Rutchey if she agreed with her attorney asking for a bail hearing instead of a preliminary hearing.

Rutchey shook her head and then said yes.

Judge Willmore set the bail hearing for Monday afternoon, November 4.

A courtroom bailiff then escorted Rutchey out of the courtroom.

Rutchey was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail Thursday night, October 24. She’s accused of killing her son Eli in their River Heights apartment. She’s being held on a charge of criminal homicide, a first-degree-felony.
