Newest councilmember Simmonds undecided on trails vote

Although she will miss her job as a member of the Logan Planning Commission, Jeannie Simmonds says she is excited to be chosen as a member of the Logan Municipal Council. Last week Simmonds was picked from a field of 16 people who applied to replace outgoing councilmember Tom Jensen.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk program Friday, Simmonds was asked about an issue coming before the council soon: should the city appropriate $1,750,000 from its capitol project reserve funds as a loan to complete parks and recreation trails?

Simmonds said she loves trails and believes they become a connective tissue for a city.

“I know that we’ll have more debate and we’ll have more discussion about it,” Simmonds continued. “Maybe we’ll have some compromise because that’s what it should be all about.

“I know there are other projects that other people feel passionately about that are also in line with Parks and Rec but are not at the top.”

Simmonds did not say if she has made up her mind how to vote on this issue. She lives in downtown Logan and feels it will be good to have representative from that area on the council.
