Family Pops Concert will open sixth season for American Festival Chorus

The popular American Festival Chorus is opening its sixth season with something new, a Family Pops Concert. Music director and founder Craig Jessop, who is also dean of the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University, said he is excited about the October 26 event because it should prove to be delightful for local families.

“We are encouraging babes in arms to come. We’re encouraging young children,” Jessop said on KVNU’s For the People program Tuesday. “We want to build a whole new listening audience and provide an opportunity for our young children to come and participate in live music making with a full symphony orchestra and a large choir.”

Jessop said the concert comes the weekend before Halloween and the children are encouraged to come in costume. He said children 11 and under will be admitted free.

The American Festival Chorus is comprised of approximately 290 voices from Northern Utah and Southeast Idaho.
