Logan man dies in Lake Powell boating accident

LAKE POWELL – Parks officials say they have identified a 23-year-old Logan man who died in a boating accident at Lake Powell.

Utah State Parks officials say David Hinton was killed in the accident Wednesday night near the Dangling Rope Marina.

Eugene Swalberg of the parks department says Hinton had been riding in a boat when it struck a submerged island or rock. The impact ejected him, and he was struck by the boat he was thrown from.

The area is near the site of a June accident in which three Utah women died after their boat struck a houseboat and flipped over.

Investigators said the boat’s driver was distracted by children on the craft.

Friends and family of Hinton have begun leaving messages of condolences on his Facebook page. According to Hinton’s Facebook page, was a graduate of Sky View High School and was married in March of this year. He was attending Utah State University.

Viewings for Hinton will be at Allen-Hall Mortuary Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, August 12 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at approximately 1600 East and 1900 North at 9:30-10:30 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11.
