Mayoral candidate withdraws

BRIGHAM CITY – The race to be the next mayor of Brigham City is much less complicated now. Reese Jensen has withdrawn his candidacy citing issues in the city which would be better left to current elected officials to focus on and manage.

According to the Box Elder News Journal, Jensen is throwing his support behind current councilman and Mayor pro tem Tyler Vincent. Vincent was the only other candidate who filed to replace Mayor Dennis Fife.

Jensen, a former Brigham City councilman, says Vincent will have his hands full with the current issues facing the city and shouldn’t be distracted by a political campaign. Vincent was elevated to Mayor pro tem after the council voted to strip Fife of many of his duties and responsibilities last December.

Fife has been at odds with the council after admitting to an extra-marital affair and subsequent excommunication from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fife has also been accused of assaulting councilwoman Ruth Jensen by grabbing her arm during a heated argument after a meeting in June.
