Former Logan Mayor Thompson wants help from Republicans on immigration reform

LOGAN— He’s been a republican for much of his life, but now former Logan Mayor Doug Thompson has become vice chairman of the Cache County Democratic Party. Thompson said he believes the political parties have both been moving to the right.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Wednesday, Thompson said one area where he would like to see more help from the Republicans is immigration reform. He said many of these people have been here all their lives, paying taxes and often taking jobs Americans don’t want.

He said many Republicans, like former Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, support the Utah Compact on immigration reform. On the other hand, he said Utah’s Republican senators don’t seem to want to do anything about immigration reform.
