More funds available for Cache Valley tourism

LOGAN – Tourists from all 50 states and 53 different countries visited Cache Valley in 2012 according to Julie Hollist, director of the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau. In her report to the Cache County Council on Tuesday, Hollist said transient room tax was up in the year just passed although the occupancy rate was down a little.

Hollist told the council that Governor Gary Herbert has approved $12 million for the tourism industry this year, the highest amount in history.

“What that translates importantly to Cache Valley is the potential to receive grants for out of state marketing grants,” Hollist explained to the council. “More than $2 million will be available in the pool this year, which is more than we’ve ever had before.

“So I’m looking forward to working with some organizations that I haven’t in the past and also some new ones to encourage them to apply for those funds as well. The Visitor’s Bureau will qualify and hopefully receive funds. The Utah Cooperative will do the same. The Utah Festival Opera has received funds from there before.”

Hollist said tourists come in from all over the world and this year she expects to see an increase in Asian visitors.
