Mountain Crest used an offensive barrage in the second half to outscore Syracuse 3-0 and blow open a game that the Mustangs led only 3-2 at the half. MC’s Jesse Montufar tallied two goals for the Mustangs, while four other players each added one goal in the 6-2 victory.
Tuesday’s game was the season-opener for Mountain Crest which finished the 2012 season with a 7-9-2 record. The Mustangs bowed out in the first round of the playoffs last season with a 4-0 loss to Murray, after defeating Timpview 1-0 in a play-in game.
Along with Montufar, Fernando Garcia-Aguilar, Josh Worley, Trevor Steinmetz, and Weston Casey each added a goal for the Mustangs. Syracuse, meanwhile, was led by Kyle Coffee who recorded the two first-half goals for the Titans.
The Mustangs return to action Friday when they travel to Northridge for the second game of the season. That game is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
BOBCATS 0, JAYHAWKS 0 (2OT)
Following a season-opening 7-1 victory over Bear River a week ago, the Sky View Bobcats struggled to generate offense as easily in game two, as they battled St. Joseph to a 0-0 double-overtime tie.
In the goal for the Bobcats, Nelson Griffiths pitched a shutout to record his first of the year. Mitch Koehler was equally as effective for the Jayhawks in the draw.
Sky View (1-0-1) will look to get the offense going again as they quickly return to action today (March 13) against Wasatch at 3:30 p.m. Following that game, the Bobcats will have two weeks off before their next game on March 27 against Ben Lomond.
