Logan councilmember would rather see simpler Indpendence Day celebration

Tickets are now on sale for Freedom Fire which will feature the music of Abba, performed by the band “Arrival from Sweden.” The Independence Day celebration will bring the 70s back to Utah State University’s Romney Stadium the night of Wednesday, July 3.

Freedom Fire is co-hosted by Logan City and Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts. In addition, the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra, under the direction of Craig Jessop, will perform along with a patriotic program.

Logan City Council Chair Holly Daines was the one councilmember who has voted against the program each of its three years, even though she says it will be a great show in 2013.

“I have had concerns about that show in the past,” Daines explained on KVNU’s Crosstalk program Wednesday. “It has become very, very expensive to put on.

“It’s an enjoyable thing but it’s a one time event. I must admit I would rather see those funds go to sidewalks…or trails or parks. Something that will last.”

New sidewalks is a very high priority for Daines. She said the Cruise-In is bringing in some great entertainment and she would rather see Logan have a simpler celebration, perhaps at Willow Park.
