SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Army National Guard’s Detachment 50, departed on the first leg of its nine-month deployment to Afghanistan Saturday morning.
The mission of Detachment 50 will be to transport equipment in its C-12 aircraft in the U.S. Central Command area of operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The four pilots and two crew members will spend several days at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, for deployment-specific training before heading overseas.
