Logan High groups making last preparations for Inauguration

One week from today approximately 160 people representing Logan High School’s band and choir, along with parent-chaperones, will be taking off for Washington, D.C. where the band and choir have been invited to participate in the presidential inauguration activities.

Randy Smith, director of the choir, says about 80 choir members and 45 to 50 band members will be going.

For weeks students have worked hard to raise money to pay or the trip and Smith says it’s gone pretty well.

“We’ve had a lot of success and the kids have done a pretty good job,” Smith says. “And we’ve had a lot of people who have made some donations to help some of our students who come from single parent families or more than one sibling going on the trip. So we’ve done pretty well. We feel good about that.”

He expresses thanks to those who have donated and says more contributions would be greatly appreciated.

The band and choir will host a “send-off” concert on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at Logan High School. Smith says the planes taking the group will leave Thursday, Jan. 17 at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
