iPhone 5 mania hits Logan

The line outside the Logan Verizon Wireless store started forming Thursday night as people waited overnight to purchase the new iPhone 5. Verizon Wireless was one of several stores in Logan that began selling the new phone from Apple Friday morning.

Matt Shelton, of Mendon, started waiting in line at 9 p.m. Thursday night and was the first in line outside the Logan cellphone store. His brothers Paul and Derick, and sister-in-law Nichole, joined him so they all could purchase the new phone.

The Sheltons said that once they set up their chairs and blankets others started to join them. By the time the store opened at 8 a.m. Friday morning the line of customers extended down the sidewalk and into the store’s parking lot.

Derick Shelton says the four of them spent the night, “watching movies, playing games, and hanging out.”  Nichole says it was fine until about 3 a.m. when temperatures started to get cold.

Not everyone who waited in line was able to purchase the new phone. Store employees said they received only a limited number of phones, leaving some customers only able to place an order for the new phone.
