Romney returning to Utah to mark anniversary of Salt Lake Olympics

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is stopping in Salt Lake City next month to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Winter Olympics he helped organize.Romney served as chairman of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee and will speak at a Feb. 18 ice skating show at EnergySolutions Arena.Performers include 2002 Olympic gold medalists Sarah Hughes and pairs skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier.Romney’s campaign has been highlighting the candidate’s role with television ads saying he left his Bain Capital job to “help save the Olympic Games.”The Olympics had faced financial challenges early on, and the GOP candidate says the residents of Salt Lake City helped make the 2002 games “the best in history.”Team USA garnered 34 medals that year, breaking the previous record of 13.
