Ogden– The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announces to Cache Valley motorists that the Tenth West (SR-252) Reconstruction Project has generally finished work on Phase One, and 1000 West in Logan will be open to all travel beginning Monday, December 26.While some workers will continue to work on completing “punch list” items within the Phase One corridor– US-89/91 to 200 North (SR-30)– over the next several weeks, all intersection and paving work is complete and all lanes will be open to traffic. Over time speed limits are expected to be adjusted to reflect the strengthened safety features of the new corridor, and to provide an alternative to the congestion motorists are presently encountering on Logan’s Main Street (on US-91 north of 400 North, and US-89/91 south of 400 North) during peak traffic periods. Until those speed limit changes are implemented and new signs are installed, however, motorists are expected to continue to obey the present posted speed limits. In the coming weeks workers will, as weather allows, complete the installation of guardrails near the Logan River Bridge, and the installation of new signs throughout the construction zone. Crews may also activate the new signal at 1400 North, complete remaining roadway striping and other pavement painting, and tie-up landscaping improvements as weather permits. Motorists are encouraged to be watchful for workers engaged in these activities adjacent to, or within the new lanes of travel and to approach such work with a heightened sense of awareness. The new roadway is the result of a cooperative effort between UDOT, and Cache County and Logan City. The new five-lane roadway will more efficiently move through- and residential and industrial traffic along this corridor. In accordance with an agreement between UDOT and the local governments, the number of traffic signals will also be limited on this corridor to certain, specified locations where traffic and pedestrian movements require them. This will help to maintain the free-flowing nature of this north-south alternative to Main Street. The design of the residential section of the roadway between 800 and 200 South, was the result of a cooperative effort between UDOT and the residents of Logan City’s Woodruff neighborhood. A key feature is the pedestrian-friendly west side frontage road between 600 and 200 South, which was made possible through the cooperation of 17 homeowners who voluntarily agreed to submit their properties to UDOT for this portion of the project. Woodruff residents also provided key input into the design process for this unique safety feature. Finally, the new concrete pavement on 1000 West is expected to be relatively maintenance free for up to fifty years. This long-life roadway surface will save taxpayers millions of dollars in maintenance costs over its design life. Phase Two of the $65 million Tenth West (SR-252) Reconstruction Project will begin next year with road work scheduled for the area between 200 North and 2500 North on 1000 West, and on 2500 North between 1000 West and Main Street (US-91).
