UHP advising motorists to stay off roads until weather clears

Given the wintery weather Friday evening local authorities are advising residents to stay off the roads if possible until the weather clears.Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Rick Mayo told KVNU that there have been numerous accidents and slide-offs, especially in both Logan and Sardine Canyons. Highway patrol troopers and other law enforcement officers have had to assist many trucks getting stuck in the canyons since the storm got worse. A semi-truck became jack-knifed near 2nd Dam in Logan Canyon causing major traffic delays. There were also several large trucks that had difficulty getting through both Logan and Sardine Canyon and had to pull off to the side of the road.As of early Friday evening six inches of snow had been recorded at KVNU, an official reporting station for the National Weather Service. There have also been reports of other areas around Northern Utah that had received up to foot of snow by late Friday evening.
