High School Sports Round-Up: Aug 26

<strong>Grizzlies beat 5A Cottonwood 32-25 Bill Walter</strong>

The Logan High Grizzlies went down to visit the 5-A Cottonwood High Colts. With 10 seconds left in 1st Qtr the Grizz went up 7 – 0 and never relinquished the lead. QB D.J. Nelson opened the 2nd half with an 80 yd touchdown run to make it 24 – 19. Despite a couple of missteps that led to safeties, keeping it close, the Grizz held off the Colts 32 to 25.

<strong>Bobcats lose steam early, lose to Highland 32-14 Dianna Young</strong>

Sky View scored early in the first quarter but Highland ended up leading by 6 at the half. Sky View failed to score since the first quarter losing to the Rams of Highland, Idaho 32 to 14.

<strong>Mercy rule used against MC as they fall to Lone Peak 35-14 Jason Laursen</strong>

Mountain Crest was dominated by Lone Peak, losing 35-14. With Lone Peak scoring on all five of their first half possessions the teams began playing under the mercy rule. Mountain Crest did score late in the game. The Stangs will gear up for Woodscross next week.

<strong>Bears defeat Indians in barn burner, 43-35 Ajay Salveson</strong>

The Bear River Bears and Preston Indians gave each other one chance after another to win the ball game but in the end it was the Bears who came away with a barn burner of a win with the final score of 43-35. Defense ruled the night as the two teams totaled six turnovers. The Bears were not helped by penalties totaling 85 yards to the Indians’ 22. Bear River runnng back Wes Fikui ran for 122 yards on the night and was the star that shined when the Bears needed help at a critical time. The Bears travel to Brigham City for rivalry week vs Box Elder next Friday night at 7pm.
