Former mayor revealed as benefactor of Logan City Council remodel

Tuesday night it was revealed. Former Logan Mayor Newell Daines and his wife Jean were the donors for a newly remodeled and refurbished city council chambers.Almost 100 people turned out Tuesday to get a look at the newly-revamped room. Mayor Randy Watts expressed appreciation to Daines who served as mayor from 1982 until 1990.”Think about all that transpires in a room like this,” Watts said. “There are a lot of comings and goings in the community. Literally what Newel and Jean have brought to this community is the right setting for such an important meeting as the council meeting, as we work through administration and council and talk about what the concerns are now, in the immediate future and in the long-time future for Logan.”Watts says there were many accomplishments during the years Daines served as mayor, including completion of Hydro 2 which the Watts called an “amazing jewel” for bringing about continuous renewable power. After his retirement as mayor and physician, Daines played a major role in the renovation of the Historic Cache County Courthouse and renovation of the Thatcher-Young Mansion.
