USU Bookstore thief to spend time in jail

Landon Putnam, who pleaded guilty to two class-A misdemeanors in court May 18, was sentenced to 24 days in jail in First District Court Tuesday morning.Putnam would use his backpack to steal four textbooks from the USU Bookstore at a time, ultimately taking around $7,000 in textbooks and selling them back to textbook buy back centers for cash. Putnam, 25, was sentenced to 360 days jail time on both misdemeanor charges – theft and theft by deception – and all but 24 days were suspended. Putnam, a USU graduate, told the court Tuesday he was anxious to right the wrongs he did against his alma mater. “I made horrible decisions,” Putnam said.
