Logan councilmember subject of identity theft, email scam

For those who are on Logan Municipal Councilmember Dean Quayle’s email list, they likely received a strange message purportedly from Quayle. The message said that Quayle was rushing to the United Kingdom for something important when he was robbed in the cab and that his air tickets, cash, phones and other valuables were stolen.Quayle says his first call came from a friend early Monday morning.”He had this strange message from me that I was in a far away place and needed money because I had been robbed,” Quayle says. “I’ve seen this come across before with other people and I knew immediately that I’d been had. “Somebody got into my email account and had been emailing all the people on my address list, telling them of my dire situation in a far away place. Of course it’s a bogus thing.”Quayle says he has a lot of work to do now, including changing his password and his email account. He also planned to report the incident to law enforcement as a case of identity theft.
